As having 3 different desktop environments

kdegnomexfce

In Linux multiple desktop environments, although the most popular are Gnome (used by Ubuntu), KDE (used by Kubuntu) and XFCE (used by Xubuntu). This tutorial is for Debian based distributions, while in others it can be installed as well but in another way.

KDE

To install the KDE desktop open a terminal and type:

sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop

Gnome

To install the Gnome desktop in terminal write:

sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop

Xfce

To install the Xfce desktop wrote:

sudo aptitude install xubuntu-desktop

Once installed to use the one we want, we have to restart, and the login screen select which we want and once we entered we load the desktop of choice.

Why not use Vista

Windows Vista

Generally, the newest is usually best, but not always. This is the case of the new Microsoft operating system, Windows Vista. I'll tell you a bit of my experience and not only compare with the previous XP, but Ubuntu.

I'll start talking about the installation. Here if you notice some improvement, as it is installed in less time than their predecessors, we indicate the partitions or create and install.

And once inside the first impression is that not much has changed, only the taskbar now is black and has the Vista logo and little else, and icons style Linux. My first surprise comes when I see the RAM consumption, excessive to have but the system loaded, but hey, you can use and I'll try more things.

I start to install software at least what I can, because there are many incompatible applications, for example, have a slightly antigüillo forget Office installation.

It is his turn now to the drivers, now is definitely waste when the operating system, to call in some way. I can not install or connect the printer or computer via wifi, since there are no drivers for Vista thereof. In terms of drivers has given me more problems than Linux, which is saying something.

So basically all you can take advantage of graphics effects, which do not serve much if you can not use your computer normally.

Conclusion: if you want to continue using Windows, stick with XP. If you would please stop graphic effects you install Ubuntu and Compiz-Fusion, which is more colorful and consume less.
